Our Little Lady is Not So Little!

Kayla's 4-month checkup went well...other than the shots which are terrible for me! Kayla takes them pretty well, considering she's the one being pricked! I think it's the anticipation of it all that kills me--knowing it's coming and knowing that she has no idea. It makes me feel so guilty! Anyway, she measured in at 26 and 1/4 inches long (97th percentile!) and 15 pounds, 7 ounces (75th percentile). Her head, which is lovely and round, measured in the 85th percentile and earned her a nice compliment from the pediatrician. She is doing great! We got the green light for starting rice cereal or oatmeal, but don't have to yet if we'd rather not because of her being breastfed. We haven't made a final decision on that yet... Sounds fun (at first, anyway), but at the same time she will be eating for the rest of her life, so what's the rush?

After the doctor we had a nice visit with her Aunt Ashleigh, Uncle Eric, and Bryce. If you ask me, Bryce has always been a big Aunt Jen fan. He was really sad when I was hugely pregnant and couldn't pick him up and so happy when I'd recovered from my c-section and could. But it's really funny--I swear it's like he immediately understood that Kayla was my baby... and he really seems to love her!

He blows her kisses (without being prompted to), very carefully tiptoes around her when she's on a blanket on the floor, and signs "baby" when he sees her. Anyway, he's a busy little boy, as you can imagine, at 20 months old! But when Kayla dropped her toy on the floor he stopped what he was doing, came over, picked it up and gave it back to her. Twice! I just think it's so neat to see that he really likes his baby cousin so much. It melts my heart!

Then we got to see Aunt Nancy briefly over at Mom's and have a nice visit with Nana. Then it was off to bed to get up for this last day before our three-day weekend.

My, Oh My, Four Months Have Flown By!

Amazingly (to us, at least), Kayla is 4 months old as of this past Saturday! It has been a blast so far getting to know our very sweet, cuddly, and happy little lady. She is sitting (when propped into that position), rolling over, laughing, smiling like crazy, and still attempting to "talk"--making all sorts of sounds and doing it in turn when we talk back. She loves to "stand"--bearing all her weight on her legs for several minutes--but of course can't balance herself. She goes to the doctor this Thursday for her 4-month checkup, so we'll let you know how she measures in... She's no shrimp!
